Introducing 'Intimations of Reality' Newsletter
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end
At my core, I am a humanities instructor. Sure I have done other things. I have been a soldier, stock & bond trader, hotel manager, financial advisor, academic dean, and publishing manager.
Yet, the humanities have shaped my perspective on everything. Through thirteen years of education from B.A. to Ph.D. in the Humanities and teaching for two decades in the humanities, it has prepared me to write this newsletter.
Through exploring the humanities, I have learned to think creatively and critically, reason, and ask questions. Because these skills allow me to gain insights into everything from poetry and philosophy to business models and politics, it has added depth and nuance to life.
We all know fashions, fads, and ideas come and go; however, humanistic knowledge provides the ideal foundation for exploring and understanding the human experience. Studying the humanities is a gateway to knowledge.
Humanistic knowledge is what I will be sharing here. Age-old tried and true wisdom from the greatest minds, ancient and modern, is what I am interested in bringing to life in this newsletter.
Ego is the anesthesia of stupidity
I don't claim to have all the answers. I have no silver bullet or magic elixir to offer you in this Substack newsletter. My writings are designed to stir thinking, not deliver perfect solutions in a box with a cute bow.
I wish I had the solution to all the confusion and ills of society, but I don't. I can, however, challenge you to challenge the status quo.
In many ways, society is too comfortable. Something is required to wake up the mind. It is too easy and enticing to stay in the shallow baby pool of material culture intellectually.
Hopefully, the content produced here will bring forth age-old wisdom from the greatest minds arousing curiosity in you to rise to a higher level and think deeply. I will deliver the content in short, concise, bite-sized pieces to digest easily.
It is better to be precise than intellectual
One of the most egregious sins of higher education is the sickening fixation on using four-syllable words when a one or two-syllable word will suffice.
I hope to discuss ideas plainly and simply. To be practical and not theoretical in this newsletter is important to me.
Topics will swing widely across the arts, culture, higher education, politics, and philosophy. I hope each post gives practical application for your personal growth and development.
